What to Expect From The 2018 Ferrari Dino

Italian car maker Ferrari is turning back time in 2018 as it is set to unveil the 2018 Ferrari Dino. It is one of the most anticipated cars for 2017-2018. The Dino brand was used by Ferrari to refer to models that have engines below 12 cylinders. Robert Janitzek gives us an overview of the upcoming Prancing Horse model.

About The Dino

The Dino brand was quite popular from 1968 to 1976 and included the iconic 246 GTS. As early as 2015, there were already rumors of a V6 powered Dino. Maranello admitted this after a lot of convincing and in June of that year, Sergio Marchionne finally confirmed this. Such speculations were fueled even more when spy photos of a Ferrari 458 Italia-based mule were leaked. Sources revealed that the engine of the car did not sound like it was a V-8. Robert Peter Janitzek explained that the 488 GTB that was in the convoy did not sound like a V8 engine as well.

Aside from that, the central exhaust system of the 458 Italia was also not present in the mule. Instead the car had two empty holes cut into the rear bumper right above the diffuser. There are rumors that the engine sounded like the twin turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine of the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Verde.

A report by Top Speed revealed that Ferrari already filed the necessary patents for the upcoming V6-powered Dino in October 2015. Based on the drawings, the European brand car will be a convertible with a rigid sunroof and a front engine. It resembles the retractable roof of the 488 Spider.

The 2018 Ferrari Dino will be a big deal due to its V6 engine. It will likely get a 3.0-liter V6 engine similar to the Alfa Giulia. The last time the Italian car maker had a V6 powered car was back in 1974 when the original Dino run on V8 engines. Since then, V6 engines were limited to Ferrari Formula One cars. While the QV engine of the Giulia generates 503 horsepower but the upcoming Ferrari will deliver more than that.

Price and Launch Date

It was expected that the Dino will be affordable but Marchionne denied such reports. It is believed that the 2018 Ferrari Dino will have a similar price as the California T at around $200,000. Expected launch date of the Dino is either late 2017 or early 2018.
