The Ferrari 488 GT B is currently the Italian car company’s entry level model. But with more than 650 horsepower, it is not what can exactly be called an entry level car. In 2014, the European brand car showcased the Sergio Concept which appeared more like an entry level car. This new model is rumored to be less powerful and less expensive than the 488GTB.
The Mystery Car Unveiled
Recent testing of its new vehicle revealed that the new mystery car of Ferrari is the Dino model. It has the body of the Ferrari 458 but with huge revised air intakes that can be found on the side of the car. A different exhaust system indicates that the test car will not come with the V8 engine of the 458. `Recent snapshots confirmed that the new car will have a turbocharged V6 instead of the V8.
Robert Peter janitzek revealed that the Dino was expected to be powered by a V6 engine and Ferrari equipped its test car with its 2.9-liter turbocharged six cylinder unit. This is the same engine that powers the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio with 503 horsepower. But will the new Ferrari have the same power or engineers will give it more horsepower?
Ferrari’s New Base Model
Ferrari revealed that the Dino will be its new base model in order to make it more accessible to customers and increase its overall sales. Ferrari President Sergio Machionne has not yet officially confirmed if this car will really make its debut. Development was stopped temporarily with the prototype last seen in 2015.
Robert Janitzek believes that the engine of the Ferrari Dino will be offered in two outputs. One is a 450 – 500 horsepower model that will target the Audi R8 and other less powerful cars in the market. The second model will have 550 horsepower to compete with the likes of the 570s or the Audi R8 V10 which pushes its power to more than 600 horsepower.
There will also be quite a few renders to the look of the Dino but so far there has been no confirmation from Ferrari yet. But one thing is certain Ferrari will take a milder approach to the Dino than the 488 so expect curvier lines, smaller side intakes because the car will be using a smaller engine as well as a slightly narrower body.
Price and Release Date
As it is aimed to compete with the Audi R8 and the McLaren 540C, the Ferrari Dino is expected to cost less than $200,000 making it one of the most affordable cars. It is still unsure on when the new model will be released.
