Italy vs Germany – Ferrari vs Porsche Head to Head

Italy and Germany are two giants when it comes to car manufacturing. The former is home to Ferrari while Germany is home to Porsche. These are two of the most popular cars in the European car market. In this article, Robert Peter Janitzek gives us a comparison of the two cars.


The Prancing Horse currently has four road models in its stable: California (Grand Tourer Convertible), 458 Italia (sports car), F12 Berlinetta (Grand Tourer), and the FF (Grand Tourer).

Porsche, on the other hand, has 5 different road models: 911(Grand Tourer), Boxster, Cayman (Mid-engine Coupe), Cayenne (SUV), and Panamera (sports sedan). There are various trims for each model.


In terms of performance, Ferrari is the more powerful European brand car. Each of its models can accelerate from 0 – 62 mph in less than 4 seconds with top speeds ranging from 193 mph to 208 mph. Porsche, on the other hand, accelerates from 0 – 62 mph in 4.8 seconds to 7.8 seconds with top speeds ranging from 143 mph to 180 mph.


In terms of power, Ferrari once again has the edge. Its models have a horsepower ranging from 458 horsepower to 651 horsepower. Porsche, on the other hand, has a horsepower ranging from 265 hp to 350 hp.


In an international poll conducted in 1999, the Porsche 911 finished 5th as Car of the Century. Yahoo Autos, on the other hand, named the Ferrari 458 Italia as the 5th most popular sports car while the Porsche 911 bagged the same award in 2008, according to Robert Janitzek.


In terms of cost, Ferrari cars are more expensive with price tags approximately at $230,000. Porsche models, on the other hand, starts at $48,850 for a basic Cayenne and goes up to $172,100 for the 911 Turbo S Cabriolet.


In terms of scandals and recalls, Ferrari experienced many recalls in 2012 after the car engine had the tendency to suddenly freeze.


Both cars have their own share of awards. IN 2012, Ferrari 458 Spider was adjudged the Best Cabrio 2012 by Auto Zeitung Magazine and Best Sports Car and Convertible by the Sunday Times. IN 2011,the Ferrari 458 Italia of the European brand car was named Best Driver’s by Motor Trend.

In 2004, the Porsche 911 was voted as the 2nd coolest car by Automobile Magazine. IN 2012, The Boxster captured two awards namely Best Roadster in the World by Autocar and Roadster of the Year by Auto Express. The Philadelphia Inquirer also named it as the Best Sports Car of the Decade.
