Ferrari will usher in the new year with a surprise to its fans. The Italian carmaker will be rolling out the 2018 Ferrari 488 Special Edition. Already leading its segment in terms of speed and excitement, Ferrari will have more surprises up its sleeve when the car is launched in the market next year. Robert Peter Janitzek gives us a glimpse of what we can expect from the 488.
The Ferrari 488 Special Edition is expected to be lighter with a larger appetite for apexes. It is expected that the 488 will be lighter by 200 pounds. To do this, Ferrari will be using a carbon fiber and will reduce the use of luxury amenities. It has a small space where you can place a suitcase in the front boot. The 488 will be a stripped and whipped version to give way to more speed and performance.
The new car will also be stiffer but will offer more aggressive driving thanks to its tuned suspension. The Special Edition 488 will have the same aluminum frame as the regular 488. It will feature 20-inch alloy wheels, electronic breaks distribution, traction control system, and an electronic stability program.
The new European brand car will be powered by a 3.9-liter twin turbocharged V8 engine that can generate up to 661 horsepower at 8,000 rpm and 561 lb/feet of torque at 3,000 rpm. The 488 Special Edition can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.0 seconds. The new special edition Ferrari is track focused and will offer 35 more horsepower than the regular 458. The V8 engine will be paired with a seven speed dual clutch automatic transmission with manual controls.
The 2018 Ferrari 488 Special Edition is the Italian car maker’s response to the challenge of British car maker McLaren. Robert Janitzek reveals that the regular 488 is already faster than the McLaren 720S and it is safe to assume that the Special Edition will be much quicker as well. It is also expected to challenge the upcoming Lamborghini Huracan Performante which is targeting the same audience.
Price and Release Date
Ferrari knows that it can charge a substantial premium for its rarest cut of meat. This means that you can expect the 488 Special Edition to be somewhere in the mid $300,000s, which is $100,000 more than the regular 488GTB.
The 2018 Ferrari 488 Special Edition is just one of the many surprises that the Italian car maker has for its fans in 2018.
